LDGMO Cancer Families
One of LDGMO greatest achievements over the last 14 years has been helping local families. From the beginning, donating to the International Breast Cancer Research Foundation (IBCRF) and its efforts to cure breast cancer has been our number one goal, but helping local families who have been stricken by cancer has become an equally important part of our efforts. To this end, we have, since 2007, provided a local family impacted by cancer with a “long weekend” getaway to enjoy each other’s company at the Beacons Resort in Minocqua, WI or The Wilderness in Wisconsin Dells, WI. Sadly, seven of the families being touched by this rewarding trip lost their family member to cancer.
While all families who have received this trip have extended their thanks to us (and those of you who have participated and donated so generously) for the wonderful times they had on the trip, the family members of those two families who have lost their loved ones have contacted us to thank us for giving them a chance to get together for one last relaxing, memory-filled weekend together.
In 2009, one of our annual Linda Dworak Golf Memorial Outing golfers was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. As a committee we decided to help with some medical bills. We have continued that gesture ever since.
