About LDGMO
Linda passed away from breast cancer in December 2004. She was a very upbeat person and was eager to find a cure
for breast cancer before she passed away. She was very involved with Relay for Life, and she was good at raising money.
In her last year involved with the Relay, she raised $14,000 on her own.
Linda’s daughter Amanda, and close friends, Bob and Pat Nelson (herself a breast cancer survivor and patient of IBCRF’s Dr. Love), and their son Trent, of Manitowoc,
After only a month of planning, the First Annual Linda Dworak Golf Outing was off and running. With only 8 teams of 4 they were able to raise $1,000. It was held at Meadow Links in Manitowoc with a small cook-out after.
Every year since, the outing has grown. All of the money raised goes to the International Breast Cancer Research Foundation and one or two local families.
One of the families goes on a weekend getaway to the Beacons in Minocqua. This has been a great success. The family chosen is always a family going through cancer. It is our way of giving back and giving the family a weekend of relaxation.
Adding a second family was new in 2009. The recipient is a former participant in the outing. He was recently married, bought a house and weeks later found out he has a rare form of cancer. Not what they hade envisioned in their early marriage, but something they have accepted. The Dworak’s and Nelson’s donated 30% of the funds raised to the family to help pay for medical bills.
In addition to 18 holes of golf, participants enjoy a reception, dinner, awards, raffle and silent auction.
